7 Free Programs For Mac OS X That I Find Useful

I use these 7 free programs for Mac OS X often:

  1. VLC - this is probably the only video player you will ever need for Mac OS X.
  2. BBEdit Lite - an excellent and powerful text editor. Two things I really like about BBEdit are find and replace with escape symboles (i.e. find \r and replace with ;), and its ability to handle huge text files.
  3. Fugu - An SFTP, SCP and SSH frontend. This makes uploading files to some linux servers feel like FTP.
  4. Longhand - my favorite calculator. Type an expression and it is instantly evaluated. There are no inefficient buttons. Its a little bit slow and buggy though.
  5. Abcissca - a very powerful graphing program capable of outputing print-quality graphs as EPS. This is ideal for use with LaTeX.
  6. photo Drop - this utility quickly creates mini-applications that perform batch image conversions by drag and drop.
  7. Transmission - A bittorrent client that works well and is simple and elegant.
